ConAgra Foods/Project Saunders

Executive Summary

Dunbar Inc. undertook the installation of a state-of-the-art sauce kitchen as part of ConAgra’s Project Saunders, which included major upgrades to the facility’s utilities and production capabilities. This large-scale project involved the installation of new utilities—including steam, condensate, compressed air, and city water—necessary for the new kitchen operations. Additionally, a new cooling tower, tank farm (comprising four silos), and a blending deck with 10 mixing tanks and pumps were installed. The kitchen was connected to two fill tanks that fed into three fillers, which led to two cooling tunnels and out to the conveyor systems for efficient processing.

Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which affected procurement timelines and workforce availability, the project was successfully delivered within the specified time frame and under a guaranteed maximum price contract. One of the critical structural challenges addressed was the reinforcement of the facility’s roof to accommodate the new load resulting from the installation. Through Effective project management and collaboration, ConAgra Foods was able to enhance its production capacity and operational efficiency, supporting future growth and product innovation.
