First Solar/Plant 3

Executive Summary

Dunbar Inc. successfully completed the installation of a Central Utility Building (CUB) for First Solar’s Plant 3 between November 2019 and September 2020. This $11 million project, designed by JDRM, involved the installation of six chillers, twelve cooling towers, three air compressors, two air dryers, and twenty-five pumps. Additionally, we executed the installation of a 30″ glycol supply and return system to 93 rooftop units (RTUs), utilizing helicopter picks for efficient transport and placement.

One significant challenge arose during a polar vortex, which brought high winds that prevented the lifting of the cooling towers. Despite this, our team quickly adapted by finding a low-wind area to stage the towers on the ground, ensuring no delays in the overall project schedule. Once the weather stabilized, we safely completed the lift under normal conditions.

Dunbar Inc.’s proactive approach to problem-solving and commitment to on-time delivery allowed for the successful completion of this complex project, meeting all client expectations and ensuring the seamless operation of the Central Utility Building for First Solar.
